How To Create A Beautiful Nursery For Your First Child

Bringing a new little person into the world comes with worry, anxiety and nerves, but more than that, plenty of excitement and joy. Before the new baby arrives, you might want to start preparing things from Linen and more and getting the nursery ready. If you’re struggling to come up with ideas and tips for decorating or organizing your child’s nursery, here are some pointers to give you some direction.

  • Make it bright and airy
It’s important that the room looks bright and airy and approachable. While you might not think the décor is very important at first while your little one is a baby, you don’t want to start decorating when their first or second birthday comes around and they start growing up a little bit. Use neutral colours in case you ever need to rearrange the bedrooms and use the room as something different.
  • Decorate it with accessories
You can put up pictures in the nursery, and you can use toys and other accessories to make it look like a beautiful room for your child to grow up in. Bright and colourful unique cushions, for example, can add a lot of character to the room. Just make sure all the accessories are child-safe and there is nothing dangerous.
  • Don’t use a big room
It’s nice to have a lot of space, but having a room that is big can seem far too large for your child and the nursery. Most families will use the smallest room as the nursery as there is less to decorate and look out for, and not as much space is needed for a baby or toddler anyway.
  • Make it safe
Before the baby arrives, make sure you go around the room with a fine-toothed comb and look for any possible hazards. This won’t be so urgent at first while your baby is very young and spends most time in a cot or crib, but as he/she gets older and starts to move around the room with more ease, you will need to check for sharp corners, small pieces and electrical equipment which might be within reach.
  • Plan ahead but not too far!
Some parents-to-be can go overboard with the accessories and item they buy for their new baby, and will buy things for the first two or three years of the child’s life. There isn’t much need to plan this far ahead, but you should plan up to the first 6 months or year, since this will make it easier for you to concentrate on things other than shopping for the first few months.
  • Don’t overspend on certain things
Don’t spend lots of money on décor that is going to be unsuitable after the first 2-3 years. The same applies to clothing and other accessories that you might be buying for the wardrobes in the nursery. You might feel like it’s going to be a long time, but your baby will be growing up soon enough and you’ll have to adapt.
